CodeIgniter 3: maintain, upgrade or rebuild?

  • Maintain and improve when the application does its job and the problems are specific. This is usually the cheapest option, and often the right one.
  • Move to CodeIgniter 4 when you want a supported framework without changing everything.

Do you work with CodeIgniter 3 and CodeIgniter 4?

Yes, both. I maintain and extend live CodeIgniter 3 applications and build on CodeIgniter 4.

Can you take over an existing CodeIgniter project?

Yes. I start by auditing the code and server, fix the riskiest issues first and document what I find as I go.

Should I migrate from CodeIgniter 3 to Laravel?

Only if the old code is blocking what the business needs. If the application works and the problems are specific, improving it in place is usually cheaper.

Why does my CodeIgniter site keep going down?

In my experience it is usually several causes together, such as undersized PHP-FPM pools, slow queries and external API calls with no timeout. I find each one and confirm the fix with a load test.

Can you add an API to my CodeIgniter app?

Yes. I build REST APIs on CodeIgniter for web and mobile apps, including authentication, push notifications and background jobs.
